Oman Tours: Turtles of Ras al Jinz Itinerary

Over these allocated three days you will have the chance to experience some of the best adventures in Oman what the country has to offer. Following mountain trails, visiting old forts and ruins this trip really lets you absorb Oman’s cultural heritage. You will visit old mountain villages perched on mountain sides and wander through old souks where livestock and silverware are sold.

You are picked up from your hotel reception at an agreed time by your experienced Omani guide. You head south east out of Muscat towards Qurriyat, a small fishing village located on the Arabian Gulf coastline. Its name means ‘villages’. You then head down the eastern coast road to visit the Bimah sinkhole, a spectacular limestone crater with blue-green water at the bottom deep enough to swim in. Then it’s on to Fins beach where you can go for a swim, paddle or just take a stroll along the white sandy shore.

You reach Sur in the afternoon. There you can wander around the Dhow boatyard where the famous boats are still made today using the traditional methods. Next stop along the coast road is Ras Al Jinz, home to the Greenback turtles. In the evening you will have the opportunity to accompany a ranger down to the beach to witness these magnificent creatures laying their eggs on the shore. You will spend the night at the Ras al Hadd Hotel

This morning you follow the coast road again, stopping at the small fishing village of Al Ashkarah where you can stretch your legs along its shoreline before heading away from the coast towards the Sharqiya region, home to the Wahiba sands. You will stop at Jalan Bani Bu Ali Mosque, an unrestored sandstone place of worship known for its 52 domes and traditional style, before travelling across the desert plain to your evening destination, a luxury desert camp situated in amongst the sand dunes called the Desert Nights Resort. After dropping your bags into your 5* tented chalet you are taken to the top of the dunes to watch an unforgettable sunset before retiring to the resort for the night.

The last day starts with a viewing of the desert sunrise, should you chose to get up that early!  After an Arabic style breakfast you will head back through the desert dunes where you will be able to stop at an authentic bedouin dwelling, see how henna tattoos are drawn, and buy some of the tribal wares. A short distance from the desert up in the hills you will find Wadi Bani Khalid, a small oasis of calm nestling up in the mountains. This is one of Oman’s most beautiful wadis.

You will be able to relax on its rocks, and swim in its cool waters, enjoying the surrounding views, before its back to Muscat where your guide will drop you off back at your hotel in mid-afternoon.
